Watchmen / Slomotion - CD (Used)

Watchmen / Slomotion - CD (Used)

Author: Watchmen

Format: Limited Edition

Release Date: 25-09-2001

Details: Product Description This Canadian band 2 CD collection is priced as a single disc. The first includes new studio recordings and the second is a nine song collection of their most popular hits. Both discs are multi-media with clips, photos and the possibility of mixing their songs on your computer. Amazon.ca Long-term fans of decade-old Winnipeg band the Watchmen will hear some differences in the eight new songs on this two-disc set. Recorded without drummer Sam Kohn, the material on the Fast Forward half relies on programmed beats and drum loops slightly at odds with the group's workmanlike rock. For most, however, any disappointment over the new direction will be short-lived, as the mod sounds deepen the new tunes' atmospherics, particularly on tracks like "I Like It" (with Eddie Vedderish lead vocals from singer Daniel Greaves). And a few tunes are as strong as anything the band has done yet. "Phone Call" merges a pop melody and power chords to rousing effect, while the Jesus Jones clone "Absolutely Anytime" is a fitting reminder of a time when digital effects and analog heart seemed destined to take rock to a new level. Too bad Greaves's lyrics come up short. The most interesting might well be the heavy-handed metaphor behind "Stereo," a song from the group's previous album Silent Radar and included here in a remixed version. Rewind, the second disc from this set, includes nine previously released songs. For all their aspirations to soar with the mighty (think U2), the Watchmen remain earthbound, but Slomotion shows that's not such a bad place to be. --Shawn Conner
