Led by ambitious DJ-composer Barry Ashworth, the Dub Pistols integrate a variety of compatible influences into an upbeat multicultural sound. With a strong emphasis on Jamaican dub and reggae as well as American hip-hop and British acid house, the Pistols create a pulsing, rhythmic stew appropriate for both listening on the home stereo and the urban dance floor. Ashworth's turntable skills and sampling choices are moderately impressive, but the band's drum programming keeps the music hurtling forward.
